New products and approvals – February 2024

1st February 2024

BCPC’s Online UK Pesticide Guide provides the latest position with regards new entrants and approvals for products approved for use.
The following updates have been made to the UKPG database for February 2024.

  • Corteva have approval for a novel combination of existing actives – dicamba + nicosulfuron + rimsulfuron called Principle Forte (M 20797) which is approved for weed control in grain and forage maize and which has been added to UKPG database as PAR while I await a copy of the label text.
  • Adama have approval for a novel combination of existing actives – azoxystrobin + prothioconazole (Maxentis, M20809) which is approved for disease control in cereals and oilseed rape and which is currently listed in UKPG as PAR while I await receipt of the label text. Note that it is approved for use in GB only, not in Northern Ireland.
  • Microthiol Special (sulphur, M19419) has gained an EAMU allowing application to vining peas, combining peas and edible-podded peas for the control of powdery mildew.
  • Serifel (M19236, Bacillus amyloliquifaciens) has 3 new EAMUs allowing it to be used on protected and outdoor loganberries, raspberries and rubus hybrids as a drench for control of root rot, protected and outdoor strawberries for control of crown rot and for control of powdery mildew and Pythium on cucumber, gherkin and squash where it is applied via drip irrigation or as a foliar spray.
  • Fenomenal, Firescale and Magnetite (ferric phosphate) from Doff have been issued with new approvals from CRD which no longer list a latest time of application. I am querying this with Doff before I delete this information from these product entries.
  • Levee and Lizard (benzovindiflupyr + prothioconazole) from Syngenta have new approvals from CRD which changes the latest time of application in oats from BBCH 69 to BBCH 59.
  • CRD have announced their intention to withdraw the approval of mancozeb in GB (approval has already lapsed in NI) but there has been no change to the approval dates listed on their web page yet with approvals lasting to 2026. They also advise that they are considering withdrawing the approval of famoxadone and indoxacarb.
  • Albaugh UK have a new name for the Rotam thifensulfuron + tribenuron methyl product Hiatus that they have acquired. It is now called Hadden (M 20803) and is listed as PAR in UKPG until Aubaugh confirm that it will be available to buy and use this year.
  • Sharda have a new approval for a rimsulfuron product (Rest, M 20794) for weed control in potatoes and forage maize and which is currently listed as PAR.
  • UPL Europe now have an approval for chlorantraniliprole (Shenzi 200 SC, M 20799) which mirrors Coragen from FMC and Voliam from Syngenta and which is used for control of insect pests in carrots, forage maize, grain maize and sweetcorn.
  • Calisto (mesotrione from Syngenta) has gained EAMUs allowing use on linseed, poppies grown for morphine or seed production and on sweetcorn for control of a range of broad-leaved weeds such as black nightshade, common amaranth and redshank.
  • Mitsui has a new approval for Tachigaren 70 WP (hymexazol, M 20812) for seed treatment of sugar beet and fodder beet but this mirrors the earlier approval of M 20547 so it is listed as PAR.
