A relatively quiet month through May as some people begin to take holidays but the BCPC Congress in Harrogate promises to address the likely impact of the Brexit re-set and I for one am very interested to hear what the speakers have to say.
New Approvals by Company:
Albaugh
- has extended the range of crops on the Flame Duo label (florasulam + tribenuron-methyl) to include oats, rye, spelt, triticale and spring wheat.
Barclay
- has duplicated its glyphosate product Ardee XL with a new MAPP No (M21719) for use in NI only while the original (M17515) continues in GB but expires in NI 30/11/2027.
BASF
- has extended the range of crops on the Vayo label (M20549, mefentrifluconazole) to include strawberries, protected strawberries and protected aubergines, courgettes, cucumbers, gherkins and summer squash under permanent protection with full enclosure.
Bayer
- has confirmed that it will be marketing a new mix of actives in 2027 – aclonifen + diflufenican + flufenacet for use in GB only where Challenge Plus (M21008) or Mateno Star (M21174) will offer pre-em weed control in winter wheat and winter barley. Bayer also has a new approval for the active in Serenade ASO – Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (Strain 713). Called Rhapsody, it is approved for use in oilseed rape, wheat, barley, rye and triticale in GB only but it is currently listed as PAR in UKPG since the diseases that it is active against are not yet known to me.
Certis Belchim
- has duplicated its new blight fungicide Areli under a new name – Valdina (M21705, cyazofamid + valifenalate) for use in GB only. Areli is confirmed as available to 2027 while Valdina is still only listed as PAR in UKPG.
Clayton
- has another straight fluazinam product in Clayton Surinam (M21654) which is approved in both GB and NI until 31/5/2030 – longer than other fluazinam products which currently expire October 2028.
Fargro
- Leptinox Plus has a new MAPP No (M21436, Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki E2348) for use in GB only and has three new crops on the label – amenity vegetation, natural vegetation and ornamental plant production. Use in NI expires 15/2/2027.
FMC Agro
- has duplicated its Concert SX and Pennant (metsulfuron-methyl + thifensulfuron-methyl) with new MAPP Nos (M21661 & 21662) which now expire 28/2/2029 while the approval of the originals has been reduced from 9/9/2099 to 31/10/2027. Also duplicated is Calibre Max SX (M20826 & 21763, thifensulfuron-me + tribenuron-me) with the former now expiring 30/11/2027 while the new approval lasts until 30/4/2034. FMC Agro also now has a Wolverine mimic in Mezzanu (M21709, fluxapyroxad + metconazole) for use in GB only which has been added to the database as PAR.
Globachem
- has gained approval for a new fungicide for use in wheat and trirticale. Called Firuza (M21704) it contains a mixture of prothioconazole and the inorganic potassium phosphonate. The range of diseases controlled has not yet been known to me so it is currently listed as PAR until a label becomes available.
Hockley
- has duplicated its two 360 g/l glyphosate products Hi-Phosate with the slightly catchier name of Cleanground 360. Like the Hi-Phosate products, one (M21692) is specific for GB and the other (M21699) is specific for NI only.
Nufarm
- has duplicated its Bolt, Fragma Max and Supreme Max products with new MAPP Nos (M21488, 21701 & 21703, florasulam + tribenuron-methyl) which are approved until 30/6/2033 while the approval of the originals has been reduced from 9/9/2099 to 31/10/2027 or 30/11/2027 according to product.
Ninja
- Ninja Agriculture Ltd is a new addition to list of UKPG suppliers which has an office in Covent Garden, London, and currently has only one product approved by CRD. This product is Suriken (M21657, spinosad) and is a mimic of most of the other spinosad products approved by CRD. It is currently entered as PAR and is approved for use in GB only.
Rainbow
- has gained approval of a mimic of Amistar Max which is called Aster Plus (M21660) for use in GB only and it is listed as PAR until availability in the market is confirmed.
Rovenska
- This new supplier has an approval now for Tec-Bom which contains potassium salts of fatty acids.
Syngenta
- has a new product for disease control in managed amenity turf called Vertenza. It is an EC formulation of straight prothioconazole that contains 320 g/l. It is currently listed as PAR in UKPG while I wait for a label to become available.
EAMUs added:
- Arizona (M21116, folpet) now has three EAMUs allowing treatment of ornamentals and hardy nursery stock, including protected specimens, against a wide range of diseases such as black spot, anthracnose, box blight, scab, powdery and downy mildew and white mould.
- Elestein (M21226, boscalid + pyraclostrobin) has four new EAMUs valid in both GB and NI for control of various rots and blights in apricots, peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums, blackberries, raspberries and protected blackberries and raspberries.
- Goltix 70 SC (M16638, metamitron) has an EAMU allowing treatment of weeds in bulb onions, garlic and shallots.
- Kanemite SC (M19281, acequinocyl) has an EAMU allowing treatment of various mites in protected ornamental plants.
- Nissorun SC (M19263, hexythiazox) has an EAMU allowing treatment of two-spotted spider mite in protected and outdoor strawberries.
- Prose (M19196, prosulfocarb) from Sharda now has 4 EAMUs allowing treatment of annual weeds and grasses in carrots, horseradish, parsnips, parsley root, salsify, winter linseed, rye, triticale, garlic, onion sets, shallots leeks and spring onions.
- Silvanto Prime (M21263, flupyradifurone) has a new EAMU allowing treatment of aphids in lettuce.
- SL 657a (M20652, metalaxyl-M) has 3 new EAMUs allowing treatment of downy mildew in hops, table & wine grapes and in red beet where it can also be used against root malformation disorder.
- Zorvec Enicade (M20366, oxathiapiprolin) has its first EAMU allowing treatment of downy mildew in wine grapes with just a 14 day harvest interval.
Changes to approval expiry dates: CRD has extended the approvals of a number of products and actives, most of which are detailed below.
- Benzoic acid: The approval of all three Menno Florades products has been extended by one year to 21/4/2028.
- Captan: The approval of all captan products have been extended in GB to 31/1/2032 but remains in NI at 15/5/2027 which means that most will be lost in NI unless it is amended in the next year. The exception is a new approval of PP Captan 80 WG from Arysta (M21730) which CRD lists as approved only in NI but until 9/9/2099.
- Ethephon: The approvals of Camposan, Cerone, Ephon Top, Fonic and Tephon have been extended by 1 year to 15/5/2028.
- Fluoxastrobin + prothioconazole: The approval of Variano Duo has been extended to 31/7/2029.
- Fluroxypyr + fluroxypyr meptylester: The approval of Flurostar Forte has been extended to 15/8/2029.
- Fluxapyroxad + metconazole: The approvals of Clayton Libra and Clayton Quintus have been reduced from 30/4/2030 to 15/9/2028 in both GB and NI.
- Isoflucypram + prothioconazole: The approval of Vivalis has been reduced to 15/4/2030. They are only approved for use in GB.
- Metconazole: The approval of Artina 90 (M20926) has been reduced to 15/9/2028 in both GB and NI. Artina 90 (M20768) is already set to expire 15/9/2027 in both GB and NI. The approval of Clayton Metaphor has also been reduced from 30/10/2030 to 15/9/2028 in both GB and NI and Sharda’s metconazole Misha (M21095) will also now expire 15/9/2028.
- Orange oil: The approval of Prev-gold (M21348) has been extended to 26/3/2028.
- Prothioconazole: The approval of Cleancrop Protocol, Era 250, Innox and Soratel has been extended to 30/9/2029.
- Rimsulfuron: The approval of Titus has been extended by three years to 15/2/2031.
Withdrawals:
- Indoxacarb products are no longer listed on the CRD database and Explicit, Rumo and Steward have been deleted from the UKPG database.
