9 November 2001

British Crop Production Council (BCPC) bursaries have provided two overseas scientists with the opportunity of attending this year's BCPC Conference - Weeds 2001. Professor Ostin A Chivinge, Executive Dean in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zimbabwe, Harare and Dr Kathiresan Kathir who is a Reader in Agronomy in the Faculty of Agriculture at Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Tamilnadu, India, will be travelling to Brighton, for the event which takes place 12 to 15 November 2001
Since the introduction of these awards, 35 bursaries have been given to scientists from a total of 25 countries.

Awarding bursaries to overseas scientists is one of the many contributions made by BCPC to support the science and practice of crop protection in the international arena. The bursaries allow delegates who, through lack of funds, would not otherwise be able to attend this important scientific event. Not only does the delegate benefit directly, but the information acquired can be passed on to colleagues back home and valuable links are also forged with fellow delegates from around the world.

Those interested in being considered for a BCPC bursary award in 2002 should contact the BCPC office for an application form - BCPC, 7 Omni Business Centre, Omega Park, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 2QD, UK.
