UK Pesticide Guide keeps up to date with major pesticide changes 15 January 2003 The 2003 editions of The UK Pesticide Guide and The e-UK Pesticide Guide, have just been released. This popular book and CD both highlight current changes that are taking place in pesticide use and provide invaluable information on pesticides and adjuvants for UK agriculture, horticulture and amenity use. “2003 marks a milestone for anyone using, or advising on, the use of pesticides, especially in horticulture,” explains the editor, Dick Whitehead. “Many active substances will lose their approval as a result of the EU Review Programme, while others have been granted a temporary reprieve until 2007. Over 130 products will be lost, so access to the latest information will be vital. The 2003 edition contains all the information to help everyone involved to take steps to avoid being caught with stocks of unapproved products at the end of the year.” The 2003 edition includes updated information on 1,400 pesticide products, 500 active ingredients and mixtures and over 120 adjuvants, plus major additions, updates and enhancements. “Many products have extant approval but, for various reasons, are not submitted for inclusion in the main part of the Guide,” comments Mr Whitehead. “For the first time, we have included a list of these products as ‘Products also registered’, making The UK Pesticide Guide 2003 the only printed reference for this information.” It also has; an updated section explaining the EU Review Programme; a new section giving details of 14 active ingredients that have been granted derogations for Essential Uses; details of the latest Resistance Management Guidelines and details of Specific Off-Label Approvals (SOLAs). The e-UK Pesticide Guide, presented as a fully searchable CD, contains all the information that can be found in the printed version of the Guide plus numerous additional features for the user. Says Mr Whitehead. “The 2003 edition has a powerful search functionality with harvest interval data, product LERAP classification and off-label uses now available as searchable fields. The SOLA data has links to the Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) website to enable users to access the official Notices of Approval. There are also links to the Leatherhead Food International on-line database of maximum residue levels along with plant growth stage illustrations.” A free guided tour of the e-UK Pesticide Guide 2003 is available on-line at www.ukpesticideguide.co.uk or a downloadable demonstration can be accessed from the BCPC Online Book shop www.bcpc.org/bookshop BCPC and CABI Publishing, are the joint publishers of the 2003 editions of these publications.
