10 November 2003

Further evolution of the annual conference organised by BCPC will continue in 2004. Announcing the plans for 2004 and beyond at this year’s Congress held at the SECC in Glasgow, BCPC Chairman, Dr Barry Thomas, revealed that in 2004 the event will run as a series of BCPC Linked Seminars. These Linked Seminars will alternate with the BCPC International Congress – Crop Science & Technology, which will then be run biennially, so returning in 2005. The first Linked Seminars event will again be held at the SECC in Glasgow, but will run from the earlier dates of Monday 1 November 2004 to Wednesday 3 November 2004.

The Linked Seminars will provide an opportunity for a more in-depth consideration of specific areas of topical interest but still focussing on Crop Science & Technology. Invited papers will be given by leading experts and there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate. Delegates will be able to register for one, or more, of the six seminars, which will cover three key themes:

  • food related issues, including organic production and functional food;
  • water related issues and the environment, including the issue of metabolites;
  • crop protection issues, including the regulation of biotechnology and its impact.

In addition to the Linked Seminars, there will also be the highly successful BCPC Exhibition which is seen as a focal point for annual business networking. The ever-popular hospitality suites, which companies can hire for their own business meetings and entertainment, will also be available during the event.

"BCPC is strongly committed to provide a forum which facilitates the exchange of views and information and the promotion of scientific debate" explains Dr Barry Thomas Chairman of BCPC. "In the past 30 years there have been significant changes in the industry and the BCPC Conference has always sought to reflect these changes. It will continue to provide a unique venue where colleagues from around the globe can discuss science and business, meet old friends and make new contacts."
