1999 BRIGHTON BURSARY AWARDS

Awarding bursaries to overseas scientists to enable them to attend the Brighton Conference is one of the many contributions made by BCPC towards extending its mission to support the science and practice of crop protection into the international arena. The aim of these bursaries is to enable a delegate, who due to lack of available funding, would otherwise be unable to attend. Not only does the delegate who attends the Conference benefit, but the information acquired can be passed onto colleagues and valuable links are also forged with fellow delegates from around the world.

Since the introduction of these awards in 1989, 31 bursaries have been awarded to scientists from a total of 22 countries.

In 1999 bursaries have been awarded to:

Professor Eduardo Sixto Leguizamón, from the Department of Crop Production – Weeds, Faculty of Agronomy at the University of Rosario, Zavalla, Argentina.

Ineta Vanaga from the Latvian State Centre of Plant Protection, Riga, Latvia.

All those wishing to be considered for a bursary for the 2000 Brighton Conference - Weeds should contact BCPC at 49 Downing Street, Farnhan, Surrey GU9 7PH early in 2000 to request an application form. The closing date for applications will be 31 March 2000.

Date: 15 November 1999
