The UK Pesticide Guide 2004 | The e-UK Pesticide Guide 2004

News Releases

30 January 2004

The 2004 editions of The UK Pesticide Guide and The e-UK Pesticide Guide, have just been released. Their publication comes at a time when more major changes are taking place in the crop protection industry, particularly on the control of pesticide usage through legislation and voluntary measures.

Both the book and CD-ROM include information on more than 1,400 pesticide products. There are over 130 new product entries along with 13 new active substances, or mixtures of active substances, including six new chemicals which are listed for the first time. All the products and active substances that lost their approval in 2003 as a result of the EU Pesticide Review have been deleted from the 2004 edition.

“2004 will see the revised Dangerous Preparations Directive coming into force,” explains the editor, Dick Whitehead. “This will mean substantial changes to the way crop protection products are packaged and labelled in the future. The process will not be complete until mid-2004 but we have been able to make some of the changes in this edition of The UK Pesticide Guide. The Voluntary Initiative project, to review and improve the clarity of product labels, is also in progress and we have amended the presentation of information in this year’s Guide to reflect this. It is so important now for everyone involved in the crop protection industry to remain fully up to date and informed, and we hope that The UK Pesticide Guide 2004 helps to do that.”

“Last year we introduced a new section on ‘Products also Registered’” comments Mr Whitehead. “This section has been brought up to date and when combined with the marketed products, represents a comprehensive listing of all products with UK approval in 2004.”

The e-UK Pesticide Guide, contains everything that can be found in the book but more,” says Mr Whitehead. “The powerful search facilities of the CD-ROM version offer the user more flexibility in accessing information. For example, product LERAP classification, formulation type, chemical class, and off-label uses are available as searchable fields, along with approved crops and target pests. SOLAs are weblinked directly to the Pesticides Safety Directorate for access to the Notices of Approval. There are also embedded links to the Leatherhead Food International on-line database of maximum residue levels and to the Voluntary Initiative website where product Environment Information Sheets can be accessed. ”
