A gathering of the global crop protection industry will provide key opportunities to set up business partnerships around the world while also providing an international platform for new technology launches, believe companies exhibiting at this year’s International Congress and Exhibition.

UK-based business Plant impact (Pi), says that the BCPC-organised Exhibition, being staged at Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre this October, is the one event where people from all over the world involved in crop protection come together, providing an excellent forum for the top names in the agrochemical industry.

This year’s event is the fourth in succession at which the company has exhibited and, according to Pi’s marketing adviser, Bob Bolton visitors now expect the company to be there. “People know where we’ll be and come straight to our stand when they arrive to see what new technology we have on offer,” he says. “We’ll look to generate strong bonds and partnerships at the event that will end up benefiting growers, food manufacturers and consumers around the world.”

Mr Bolton says Pi will be looking at the event to increase its distribution worldwide. Licensing deals and increased global awareness of products are also on the company’s agenda for the Exhibition.

Preston-based Pi was founded in 2004 with a view to solving crop growing problems with “creative chemistry” rather than through traditional crop protection methods.

“We are demonstrating that there is another way,” he says. “This year we are hoping to take ownership of plant stress management. If you can grow a plant under high stress conditions then you can maximise yields and use fewer inputs, resulting in more marketable yield, longer shelf-life and a more profitable crop.”

Omex Agrifluids manufactures high concentrate liquid emulsion fertilisers in the UK and, according to export director, Peter Prentis the company benefits from being a speciality manufacturer of fertiliser at a predominantly agrochemical focused event. “About half of our products are regularly tank mixed with agrochemicals so a large percentage of our distribution is through agchem distributors,” he says. “There’s a nice synergy between foliar nutrients and agchem products so anyone who attends the event looking to talk about nutrients will almost certainly come and talk to us.”

Omex Agrifluids currently distributes to 53 countries worldwide specialising in tailor-made products for the high value fruit and vegetable markets – producing further synergies with the agrochemical industry.

“The Exhibition is a good place to meet new people as well as renewing existing contacts and finding out their requirements for next year,” says Mr Prentis. “All our customers have different needs and the event will give us a good opportunity to discuss them further.”

The XVI International Plant Protection Congress, in association with IAPPS (International Association for the Plant Protection Sciences) and the BCPC (British Crop Production Council) International Congress & Exhibition, takes place from October 15-18, 2007 in Glasgow.
