News Releases Renewables Focus at Plant Protection Congress 03 April 2007 Biofuels, renewable markets and targets will take centre stage at this year’s International Plant Protection Congress (IPPC) taking place in Glasgow this October. The Congress, hosted by the British Crop Production Council (BCPC) during its Crop Science and Technology Conference, will discuss the challenges involved in securing feedstock for the expanding bioenergy markets. A key topic will be pest, disease and weed management issues for a variety of crops grown for fuel and energy. “The expanding biofuel and bioenergy markets will change the agricultural map,” says Dr Jeremy Tomkinson, CEO at the National Non-Food Crops Centre (NNFCC). “This Congress presents an important opportunity to bring industry players together and open up the discussion. We need to hear how players at different points in the chain envisage the challenges ahead.” Renewable targets and the growing demand for non-food crops will provide opportunities for farmers to supply quality feedstock, adding value to farm businesses. But if the industry is to meet further demand, then it is crucial to prepare for the future, says the BCPC. The XVI International Plant Protection Congress takes place in Glasgow from 15 th-18 th October 2007. For more information about the Congress programme and exhibition details visit: www.bcpc.org |
