CD-ROM Garden Detective

News Releases

7 April 2006

The latest, updated control information has just been made available to past and new purchasers of Garden Detective. Since BCPC launched its interactive CD-ROM Garden Detective in 2003, it has already helped thousands of gardeners and growers solve the problems of pests, diseases and weeds affecting their outdoor fruit and vegetables. It allows them to identify the cause of problems, using easy-to-use keys, numerous pictures, and provides notes on the pests and advices on how to control them. To see these features a demonstration of Garden Detective can be viewed on www.gardendetective.com.

With details of over 580 pests, disease and weeds, which affect some 45 UK garden and smallholding crops, Garden Detective will remain useful and comprehensive for many years. Regular web updates enable users to keep up-to-date with information on new control methods, and changes in the products available for gardeners to use – at no extra cost.

New clues to help solve your garden pest problem are added twice a year and include:

  • The addition of new products for chemical and biological control;
  • Links to suppliers' websites;
  • Inclusion of product trade names;
  • Information on withdrawn garden products.

Operating on IBM compatible PCs, the Garden Detective CD has excellent search facilities and contains more than 1,200 high-quality photographs and line drawings of pests, diseases and weeds. Users can follow a variety of routes to track down a particular problem, depending on how much they know about it. If unsure about a weed, pest or disease, gardeners can compare photographs, or select relevant descriptions from a list of keywords, to narrow down identification leading to the answer.

Garden Detective is available at £24.99 including VAT (£21.27 exc VAT) from BCPC Publications Sales, 7 Omni Business Centre, Omega Park, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 2QD.
