New event
In 2003, the annual BCPC conference and exhibition moves to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow. Along with this move comes a change in the conference programme which will no longer run with the alternate year themes of Weeds and Pests & Diseases. The event will be called The BCPC International Congress – Crop Science & Technology 2003.

For three days in November Glasgow will be the centre of the global crop protection industry attracting technical and research delegates who will register to attend the Congress along with commercial and technical managers who will come to do business, entertain clients and keep in touch with industry developments.

New venue
The SECC is one of Europe’s finest conference venues. It offers a perfect combination of advanced technical facilities and flexibility of space to meet the needs of the BCPC Congress, Exhibition and ‘commercial fringe’ activities providing a centralised venue to accommodate all aspects of the event.

On-site services include two hotels (the Moat House Hotel and the City Inn), restaurants, a bank, medical and business centre and parking for 3,000 cars. It has its own railway station – just two short stops to Glasgow Central station.

Crop Science & Technology 2003
The Congress will formally commence after lunch on Monday 10 November 2003 and end on the afternoon of Wednesday 12 November 2003.

The programme for the Congress will encompass three key themes:

  • crop protection
  • crop production and the food chain
  • the environment and regulation.

The primary focus of the Congress will be European, but it will also address topics and issues relevant to global interests.

On the Monday afternoon there will be a plenary session of four keynote lectures presented by recognised world authorities and selected to reflect the breadth of the focus on current and future trends and issues in crop science and technology.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the Congress will comprise concurrent platform and poster sessions together with discussion panels and workshops. Active participation of delegates in discussions after paper presentations and in dedicated discussion sessions and workshops will be encouraged.

The exhibition – greater size, broader scope
Over the past few years the BCPC Exhibition has expanded rapidly and is now an integral part of the BCPC event. With the additional, purpose-built space at the SECC, the Exhibition, like the Congress, plans to expand and widen its scope.

The Exhibition is designed to appeal to organisations that supply products or services to the world-wide crop production, biotechnology, plant breeding, food production and processing, environmental monitoring and care industries.

Further details can be found in the Exhibition pages of the website

A wide range of meeting rooms and hospitality suites are available within this hotel. Suites at other hotels, located five minutes away by taxi or a 15 minutes walk away are also available.
