“Food for Life” Roadshow at the XVI International Plant Protection Congress, SECC, Glasgow, 15-18 October 2007


The CropLife “Food for Life” Roadshow will be located at the SECC Main Entrance. throughout the Congress, enabling visitors to enter and learn about crop production and crop protection, through interactive exhibits designed to appeal to the target audience - all with an interest in food and nutrition, but especially teachers and pupils, mothers/carers of children under 12, and the children themselves.

The objectives of the Roadshow are to:

  • Establish a direct and constructive dialogue between consumers and industry.
  • Info rm consumers of the origins of good food/associated benefits of crop protection.
  • Reduce prejudices against the crop production/protection industry

 

The truck contains up to 15 exhibits, including:

Our Table over the Centuries:

Our food; yesterday, today and tomorrow. A display showing the evolution of food consumption habits over time, with plates with typical meals from 1800, 1920, 1950, 2005, and 2020. It demonstrates that variety and quantity have increased over the years.

 


Feely Field:

Five large tubes, each containing a different crop: rice, potato, wheat, corn and oats. The visitor reaches into the tube and tries to guess what the crop is. Accompanied by information on the requirements for successful crop cultivation and the pests threatening them.

Model Plant:

A large plastic plant, showing all its parts and the threats it must contend with to survive.


 

Supermarket Shelf:

A large visual of a supermarket shelf to which 4 baskets are attached, containing information on the role played by modern agriculture, efficient transport and fast information systems worldwide in allowing quality and variety. Shows how freshness and variety are achieved year-round.

Beginners Life Science:

A demonstration of BCPC’s five newly launched, illustrated story-books for children. These support the Life Processes and Living Things curriculum at Key Stage 1. Featuring Trevor’s Magic Trolley, a supermarket trolley which takes him around the world answering questions on the food we eat and where it comes from.

 


Feedback Corner:

A corner in which visitors are encouraged to write their feedback on post-it notes and stick it to the wall.
